What makes a city one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world? Europe is a continent full of cities that travelers flock throughout the year for several reasons. Solo travelers and families, are the European cities because of the many things that they have to offer drawn. With its rich culture, unique cuisine and plenty of history, cities have some of Europe's top holiday destinations in the world.
From one end of Europe to another, from Spain toTurkey, Europe has many places worth a visit. Barcelona, Spain is a great city, especially without the big city feel, which means that it does not feel crowded or suffocation, like many other large cities. There are exceptional architecture in Barcelona, and Gothic architecture, to see it. One of the most famous buildings in Barcelona is the Sagrada Familia. It is still under construction, but follows the guidelines, the Catalan architect Antoni Gaudi first set out.

Construction of the Sagrada Familia began in 1882 and was financed by donations since then. If the church is finished, it will be 18 towers and an impressive building in the center of Barcelona.

Although it is not the Bosporus, it will be one of the top beach vacation spots in Europe, Istanbul located on and near the Black Sea and that makes a city of many of the Mediterranean's most beautiful beaches of Turkey has to offer in the vicinity.
There is plenty to do in Istanbul as well. From the Byzantine Empire, the Ottoman Empire to modern Turkey, Istanbul is a great testament to the history of Turkey. For example, the Hagia Sofia (Ayasofya in Turkish),Originally a church in 550 AD, which was later converted into a mosque by the Ottomans built in 1453. Currently, researchers are trying to uncover old church painting underneath the mosque walls, which were found in the original church.
Just across the street from the Hagia Sofia is the other famous mosque, the Blue Mosque. Built by Sultan Suleyman the Magnificent in the 1500s, it is one of the largest mosques in the world and admission is free. Everyone is asked to take off their shoesbefore entering and women should be dressed modestly and cover their heads to enter. The architecture and the fine details of the Blue Mosque are worth seeing.
